Celebrating Colombia’s Achievements and Regional Insights in SRHR

The vibrant city of Bogotá, Colombia made history today as the first Latin American host city for the seventh International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP), scheduled for 3-6 November 2025. This landmark decision, supported by the William H. Gates Sr. Institute for Population and Reproductive Health, the Government of Colombia, Profamilia, and Fundación Valle del Lili as co-hosts, marks a significant milestone for Latin America and the global family planning community.

From the ICFP International Steering Committee Chair Jose “Oying” Rimon II

“Thousands of delegates coming from more than 120 countries can learn from the experience of Latin America and Colombia in particular about universal health coverage and how family planning and reproductive health services and demand are successfully addressed,”said Jose Rimon II, Director of the William H. Gates Sr. Institute for Population and Reproductive Health at Johns Hopkins University and Chair of the ICFP International Steering Committee. “Through the creative use of the ‘sin’ taxes in combination with solidarity fund, the learnings from the health insurance schemes can provide unique insights into how best the public and the private sectors can play reinforcing roles in advancing sustainable, high-quality health care for its citizens”

Rimon continued, “Ministers, parliamentarians, policy makers, local government leaders, scientists, researchers, implementers, and representatives from the civil society organizations and philanthropic organizations can adopt from Latin America’s innovations to influence their own countries quest for universal health care.”
