Panama- Same-sex marriage opponents plan March on Supreme Court

(MENAFN- Newsroom Panama) Religious organizations in Panama plan a march to the  Supreme Court, on  Wednesday, October 7 to ask the magistrates to reject marriage between people of the same sex.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, The Catholic Church of Panama reiterated 4, its position on "equal union", stating that they do not oppose that people of the same sex "have legal regulations on inheritance matters."

However, it states that egalitarian unions cannot be considered or called "exactly marriage" according to the traditional concept.

In a statement, the Catholic Church maintains that it welcome and accompany not only people with these same-sex preferences, but also everyone, especially those most in need of protection.

"The Church, as is known, embraces and receives everyone, in any circumstance, in any condition, equal to people with those preferences," the document highlights.

The reactions come after a hearing on October 2 at the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) where representatives of the LGBTIQ community and the Panamanian state raised the situation of equal marriage in Panama.

They are awaiting the resolution of the Supreme Court of the unconstitutionality claims that seek to legalize equal marriage in the country.

While the Human Rights hearing was being held IACHR, members of the community participated in a protest on the steps of the Court to demand that the demands be defined.
