Catholic Church leaders in Mexico urged voters to “stand for the defense” of unborn babies as they prepare to vote in the national election on June 6.
Breitbart reports the Archdiocese of Mexico City published a voters guide over the weekend that encourages Catholics to make the sanctity of life a top priority.
“The Catholic voter has many issues to promote and defend: the issues of life, family and religious freedom are essential to make a decision,” the guide states. “These are the first tests to be passed in order to vote for someone.”
“In these times it is not possible to take a neutral stance on respect for life, family and religious freedom,” it continues. “Support should be given to those who have taken a clear stand for the defense of the life of every human being, for those who see the family as the solution to social problems, and for those who defend religious freedom.”
Currently, Mexican states have the authority to protect unborn babies from abortion. Most do, but Mexico City and a few other areas allow abortions in the first trimester.
The country has been facing on-going violent protests by abortion activists as well as international pressure from the United Nations – and potentially, under President Joe Biden, the United States — to legalize the killing of unborn babies in abortions throughout the country.

The June election will determine the leadership of the lower house in Mexico and possibly the future of unborn babies’ rights in the country.
The Archdiocese of New Mexico asked Catholics to consider future generations when they vote, writing, “Our decision will have consequences in the future for an entire community.”
“If a candidate refuses to address these issues or to take a stand on them, it causes a reasonable doubt, since one could suppose that, if elected, the person would similarly refrain from taking a stand on the matter in the exercise of their office,” the voters guide states.
If a candidate supports life, family and religious freedom, then Catholics should consider their stance on other issues “such as public safety, education, healthcare and respect for institutions,” the guide states. It notes that these issues “can be addressed in different ways.”
Mexico has witnessed a spate of pro-abortion vandalism and violence in the past year. In the summer of 2020, several Catholic churches in Veracruz were vandalized with pro-abortion and anarchist symbols, the Catholic News Agency reported at the time. A few months earlier, five other churches also were vandalized with pro-abortion phrases, including “abortion will be legal,” “keep your rosaries off our ovaries” and “get angry sister.”
In March 2020, a video showed pro-abortion feminists trying to break into a church where families with young children were worshiping during an International Women’s Day protest. Then in September, pro-abortion feminists rioted in Mexico City, throwing Molotov cocktails at police and smashing windows during an International Safe Abortion Day protest.
Pro-abortion groups, funded by some of the richest men in the world, also are putting pressure on Mexico and other Central and South American countries to legalize the killing of unborn babies in abortions.
